I am writing my first blog in a long time with a heavy heart. A good friend of mine I call “Tails” has fallen ill and is in the ICU at Dell Seton Medical Center. Tails has struggled with alcoholism for years. We tried many avenues for treatment but the disease is finally taking its toll on him. Dana (Tails) has contracted a rare bacterial infection called Clostridium Perfringens. He is on a dialysis machine which is constantly filtering his blood to rid it body of harmful waste. His kidneys are shutting down and because of his past alcohol use and the rare bacterial infection he is not a candidate for a transplant.
Dana has been in and out of the hospital several times over the past few years. Dana and I shared a birthday and we were homeboys, both being born in Minnesota. Dana also spoke of his time in the Army. We are currently working with a Veterans Administration liaison to see when he served and if they could help with financial responsibilities.
Dana asked me to be a medical power of attorney. I was honored to be asked and accepted. Now I am faced with difficult decisions both currently and in the future. I am not aware of any family members in the area. I was told he may have a daughter or a niece close, but no leads have been made yet. Reach out to me if you have any contacts I am not aware of.
Please reach out to me if you would like to help with finances for Dana. I will be making all arrangements.
